Tempered on the rivers of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, the Salmon Rivers Series of Rick Robbins Bamboo Fly Rods provide the verve, backbone and ease required to hunt the Atlantic Salmon of these waters. Two of the models are designed for eight weight lines and easily cast the range of flies typical of the Maritime Provinces of Canada.
The rods have a large swelled butt and powerful lower section. This provides not only the muscle needed for longer casts, but also the leverage to bring large fish to hand. The eight-foot four-inch model is a quick action rod that throws tight loops. It is equally at home with the demands of dry fly presentation
as with the more traditional quartering throws. My personal rod in this model has caught over 270 Atlantic Salmon and is still going strong.
The eight foot model is a more laid back compliment to its 4" taller brother. The action is more toward a medium flex and comes into its own in the Canadian style cast of pick it up and lay it down with no false casting. This is a relaxing rod to cast yet still has more than enough backbone to land larger fish. I find that I reach for this rod more often than any other whether I'm on the larger stretches of the Mirimachi or the tight waters of Nova Scotia's Baddeck River. Both of these models are built with a one-inch attached fighting butt. This little extension permits the angler to rest the butt against the chest while fighting a fish and still have sufficient clearance for handling the reel.
